Figurative art is certainly in the air for the month of February. Locally, two shows stand out with many fine artists at the R. Blitzer and the Davenport galleries. And with two well-publicized shows in London of figurative artist/icon Lucian Freud, it seemed appropriate to offer links here to explore his work.
The R. Blitzer Gallery hosts “A Figurative Affair” with 18 artists:

Barbara Bartels, Carol Bowie, Linda Christensen, Lois Cole, Barbara Downs, David Fleming, T.A. Greene, Susan Hancey, Stephanie Heit, Carol Jeneid, Sefla Joseph, Marvin Plummer, Andrew Purchin, and Cher Roberts, and sculptors Rob Blitzer, Irwin Kaplan, Lila Klapman, and Lisa Silas. The opening reception was Friday, Feb. 3. The gallery is located at 450 Natural Bridges Drive Santa Cruz, 831-458-1217.
Davenport Gallery presents “The Figure”, a show celebrating the human form in painting,drawing, printmaking, sculpture and photography.
Featuring Ron Meadow, Mattie and Michelle Leeds, Anne Greene, Neno V. Villamor, Brenda Hamerz, Ray Gwyn Smith, Barbara Schweikert, Francis Padilla, Sandra Bradshaw. The opening reception for is Sat. Feb. 11th. 4-7 p.m. 450 Highway One Davenport, CA 831.426-1199.
