By Ali Budner at kalw.org

On today’s Your Call, we’ll speak with Ken and Melanie Light. They spent five years documenting the Central Valley through photographs and essays for their book, “Valley of Shadows and Dreams.” They met people struggling with foreclosures, environmental pollution, water scarcity, immigration, extreme weather, and an ever-widening wage gap.  How do we move towards social, economic, and environmental justice for our nation’s bread basket?  It’s Your Call, with Holly Kernan and you.

Guests:

Ken Light, freelance documentary photographer and professor at the Graduate School of Journalism at U.C. Berkeley; co-creator of the book, Valley of Shadows and Dreams

Melanie Light, photography writer and founding executive director of Fotovision; co-creator of the book, Valley of Shadows and Dreams

Paul Towers, director of organizing and media at Pesticide Action Network of North America
