Monday Night at the Opera

Special Labor Day Salute to Real Working Characters!

Johannes-Martin Kranzle and Gerald Finley in Wagner's "Die Meistersinger," a new production by David McVicar at Glyndebourne.

Join host Joe Truskot for a special program saluting all those wonderful opera characters who actually have jobs. We’ve left out the endless arias sung by gods and goddesses; kings, queens, and their kin; and even the seemingly countless number of village girls all betrothed to the wrong people. Here’s the list of people sung by Cornell MacNeil, Lawrence Tibbett, Renée Fleming, Tito Gobbi, Maria Callas, Mario del Monaco, Elisabeth Topsoe, Leontyne Price, Robert Merrill, Placido Domingo, Mirella Freni, Luciano Pavarotti, and many, many others.

Spend Monday Night with KUSP starting at 7 p.m.
