Die fledermaus Flies In December 26
Join host Joe Truskot for Johann Strauss’ complete Die fledermaus (The Bat) sung in German. (“The Bat” refers to a costume at Count Orlofsky’s New Year’s Eve Ball). You’ll hear one of the Great Recordings of the Century! Herbert von Karajan conducts an all-star cast including Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Nicolai Gedda, and many veteran character singers from the German operatic stage.
As part of the Count’s entertainments in the Second Act, you’ll hear music from several additional guests at the party. Although not invited by Johann Strauss, these “celebrity entertainers” are certain to surprise and amuse you. It’s all part of the fun of the opera and a great way to end the year.
Tune in to Central Coast Public Radio, Santa Cruz for one of America’s only radio shows devoted to the fantastic world of OPERA!
